My journey has not been a linear one. Born in India, I came to America with my family when I was four. Throughout my life, I have been blessed with many educational and professional opportunities. After focusing on liberal arts in college, I switched to medicine after working with AIDS patients in San Francisco. From medical school, I went onto a residency and fellowship in Orthopedics and Hand Surgery.
My career as a surgeon has been a varied and fulfilling one. My job involves decreasing pain and improving quality of life. Over time, I have started spending more time talking with patients about non-orthopedic issues, such as physical activity, nutrition, and stress,
earning me the label of “the holistic orthopedic surgeon.” I recognize that many people do not need surgery to “fix” them, because they are not broken. They need someone to pay attention, address their health concerns, and help them move forward in their life.
Outside of work, I can be found playing outdoors. Living in the Pacific Northwest allows me access to mountains, forests, rivers, and the ocean. I enjoy hiking, kayaking/paddleboarding, wildlife, photography, yoga, and dance. A peripatetic childhood has left me with a lifelong passion for travel, an appreciation for different cultures, and an understanding of the importance of global work.
